They capture a German soldier. Upham has never seen combat so he asks Capt. Miller to not kill the enemy soldier and he reluctantly agrees on the condition that the German soldier give himself up to the first American patrol he sees. Later on, the group locates Private Ryan, but discover that an entire battalion of German troops are headed their way. The Americans set up their defensive positions and hope to ambush the Germans and hold them off long enough until the US Army catches up or else they'll have to blow up the bridge.
